Still No Job on the Homefront

So, as of today I still have not found a job. I have been looking since the beginning of September, and still nothing. I have sent many a resume and filled out more applications than I care to count. This is getting really tuff, with the economy in the state it is in and the unemployment rate as high as it is, it is even making it difficult for those of us that have degrees to find a job.
At this point I don't really care what the job is as long as it is a job and it pays. It has to pay more than my unemployment does, which really isn't much. When I was in Michigan I made at least $100 more a week than I do here, but that is neither her nor there. The fact remains that I still need to find a job in order to survive.
All of this makes me wonder if there is something that we the consumers can do in order to help the economy without putting ourselves farther into debt. I think that maybe spending a little more than usual here and there is a good idea. We also need to realize that if we want companies to start hiring again we need to give them the business that they need to make the money to get those positions open again. Unfortunately, many big companies out there are outsourcing their jobs, I am not sure if there is anything that can be done about that, but there has to be something. I am an intelligent person, but when it comes to economics and such things I have no clue, I am a computer person, I am a programmer, that is what I know and that is what I do. I only have a basic understanding of economics, and what I understand is what I have stated, in order for jobs to become available the money has to be spent on whatever it is the company is selling, the more that is spent the better the chance of jobs becoming available. I could be wrong, I don't know.

Christmas or Something Like It

As Christmas looms closer and closer, I become more and more depressed. Why you may ask. Well simply put, I don't have a job and therefore no money to buy even a small little gift for the person most important to me. As a friend posted in his blog earlier, we seem to have forgotten what the true meaning of Christmas is and where it all actually came from.
It started as a Pagan holiday known as Yule, and basically it was a celebration for the return of light and warmth to the world. A celebration for when the ground would start to thaw and crops could begin to be grown again. As time went on it was adopted into Christianity as a way to bring more pagans into the flock. It became known as Christmas a time to celebrate the birth of a child that brought light back into the world. There were not any gifts given nor were they expected. I am not sure how Christmas became associated with gifts and Santa Clause but eventually it did. In between all of this we seem to have forgotten what the true purpose of this time of year was and still should be. Simply it is a time to celebrate and be truly thankful for all we have, our families, our friends, our children. A time of renewal, the return of the "light" and hope to the world.
So why do I get depressed after all I have said? Well because like many people in the world I grew up with gifts for Christmas, and I always used Christmas as a way to try and show my family how much I cared about them and to show them that I was listening when we would go to the store and they would say "I want" whatever it was. It is my way of showing those I love that I care about them very much and to so them how much I appreciate them. I have a hard time actually getting those points across any other way, not to say that I can't, but it is much easier for me to give to people to show them than it is to tell them.
It is sad that this time of year has become a time of not paying your bills in order to get those gifts your family wants. A time when stores expect everyone to spend so much money on gifts and such things that they put themselves into debt, which in turn helps the credit card companies and so on and so forth. We have come to expect gifts from friends and family this time of year as they expect the same from us. This time is really for being with your family and spending quality time with them. Even though you may argue or fight, that is normal in any family, you are still spending time with them and doing your best to show them that you care, and that they mean a lot to you.
With all of this said, there really is only a few more things to say. Merry Christmas everyone, and please use this time of year to really appreciate your friends and family by spending time with them.

Ranting

You know, when you get internet you expect it to work, and you expect it to work at all times, so why is it that some unnamed isp keeps going out on me. I mean every night after 8 pm usually around 9:30 or 10 my internet goes out and will not come back on until the next morning, no matter what I try. So I call and complain, and they tell me how to fix it, only that doesn't work. So I have no choice but to call them back, and again they try to fix it and again it fails. I have to call them back AGAIN for them to finally send a tech out here to look at it and see what is going on. There are only 2 real possibilities as to what is wrong, a) their service just totally sucks, or b) the brand new modem I bought a month ago is faulty and therefore have to take it back and get it replaced.
Now me, being who I am, tend to think that the service just sucks and I would cancel it, only one problem with that though, I am locked into a one year contract with them, so either they fix the problem and I am happy or they can't fix the problem and I am stuck with only about 12 hours of internet connection and be the most unhappy person.
Why am I ranting and raving about this you may ask, well simply put I am paying for internet that works the way it is supposed to, but instead I get faulty, glitchy internet service that so far no one has been able to fix. It is completely ridiculous that anyone should have to put up with this. Now I understand that around 8 pm is when most ppl get online and go to facebook and such things, but come on. If the company knows this then they should know that that is the time they REALLY need to boost their signal so that their customers are happy and not getting pissed off.
So what is your opinion on this, do you think I am right to be pissed off or do you think I am way off base. Comment and let me know.
